The use of light has been a creative power wielded by artists for centuries. Through a contemporary lens artists Neville Barbour and Joe Gerlak utilize their skills in various mediums to delight the audience with their artistic vision. Barbour draws on ambient light within his charcoal and graphite drawings on a painted surface. His work explores hyperrealities that often leave audiences viewing the work as photographic. Gerlak explores plexiglass as a medium and a muted color palette to manipulate visible and perceived light. Together Barbour and Gerlak are a pair with diverse perspectives and a bold vision.

Two art forms COLLIDE for Baltimore City school students! Taking place on the Baltimore City Public Schools Professional Development days, these camps are chock-full of SPECTACULAR arts for students in grades 3-8. For half of the day, students work with local artist Jesse Lentzwiler to create their own little plush friend! For the other half of the day, Creative Alliance resident artist kolpeace leads a hands-on interactive exploration of arts and teamwork called "Mini Mural Mindfulness."
Painted screens are a unique Baltimore folk art. This workshop will include a short film on the history of the painted screen and the early painted screen artists, a demonstration of the painted screen technique, and painting a small screen. Multiple painting options will be available.
In this hands-on workshop we will learn about musical instruments that have been made across Central and South America for thousands of years and learn to build our own working clay flutes.
Learn the art of fused glass with artist Viki Keating. Place and layer glass scraps to create a unique holiday ornament of your own fabulous design. Ornaments will be fired in a kiln and will be ready for pickup one week after the workshop.

Over the past two years R.I.S.E has partnered with GWCC to provide youth with a musical theater experience program. Within this program, participants experience a comprehensive and immersive exposure to the world of musical theater. Youth work with a musical theater director and choreographer to enhance their acting, dancing, vocal, social, emotional, and team-building skills in order to develop a live musical production. This fall's musical production is The Wiz Jr. is a spectacular production that will showcase the extraordinary talents of their young performers. From the enchanting set designs to the catchy musical numbers, this show is a visual and auditory treat for the whole family. As these talented kids take center stage, they deliver an unforgettable performance that will leave you inspired, entertained, and filled with the magic of theater.
Blooming Scapes! is a group exhibition focusing on the variation of use of the landscape within art. Vibrant hills, topographic scenes, and more will be on view! Featured artists include Kini Collins, Lyndie Vantine, Hyunsuk Erickson, Fanni Somogyi, Paula Zaremba, and Deb Jansen.

Discover the wonders of crankies by making a matchbox into a storytelling machine! Explore the art of basic crankie making on a miniature scale. Get creative, by drawing your own scroll and proscenium or use the ones provided. This workshop will feature a crankie performance by teachers Katherine Fahey and Dan Van Allen. These crankies can be an end in themselves or drafts for larger pieces. If you plan to design your own, come prepared with a simple story or song to base your crankie on. If you’d like to do so, there will be time for sharing your crankie at the end of the workshop.

Get creative, choosing a subject, storyboarding, and playing to your strengths. Experiment with timing and transitions as you learn the ins and outs of this unique art form. Learn about its origins and modern-day renaissance. This workshop will also feature crankie performances by teachers Katherine Fahey and Dan Van Allen. Come prepared with a simple story or song to base your crankie on. Participants will be given the option to work on paper or buy Tyvek and will have the option to commission a crankie box from wood worker Dan Van Allen for only $50. Artists will be invited to share at an open crank night in the Marquee Lounge.

Participants will be provided with a paper scroll to work alongside others. Artists will be invited to come see the final product shared at an open crank night in the Marquee Lounge.

Learning about the musical instruments of the ancient Americas and building and playing our own instruments helps us to awaken the memory of our connection to nature, cultivate presence through the working with clay, and experience joy through sound and music-making. Our Box Office is currently open from Noon to 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays and one hour before all ticketed events. We accept cash, cards, and checks. Service fees are waived for in-person ticket purchases.
