SOLD OUT – Create Your Soul Self-Portrait

Take a guided journey through meditation to meet your higher self create your soul self-portrait! Discover and access talismans and representations of your higher self, and use collage and multimedia art techniques to manifest this unique and spiritual self-portrait.

SOLD OUT – Painted Screens Workshop w/ Michael Seipp

Painted screens are a unique Baltimore folk art. Watch a short film on the history of the painted screens and the early painted screen artists, enjoy a demonstration of the painted screen technique, and then paint paint a small screen. Multiple painting options are available. Two drinks from a selection of beer and wine are included in the workshop cost!

Adult Weaving

Rissa Fine-Karpoff gives the lowdown on the basics of weaving and then shows you how to create your very own mug rug (coaster) to take home! There will be a large selection of yarns and patterns to choose from, or you can create your own unique pattern. In addition to the small loom you will make your mug rug on, there will be two more complex looms to try out as well.

Blackscope Cinema Series: Hargrove

Hargrove is a vérité style documentary chronicling the last year of trumpet legend Roy Hargrove’s life as he embarks on his final European summer tour. Music icons including Erykah Badu, Herbie Hancock, Questlove, Robert Glasper, Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis and Yasiin Bey pay tribute to Hargrove’s artistry, impact and legacy. Roy Hargrove is your favorite musician’s favorite musician. Shot in Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Vienne, Perugia, Sète, Sorrento, and Marseille this film features stunning live performances by Hargrove in the last year of his life.

A livelier life drawing event, Dr. Sketchy's is where artists of all levels draw fabulous burlesque and variety performers! Enjoy delicious cocktails and a performance by the model, and compete in zany drawing contests to win free drinks and other awesome prizes! We'll start off with quick 1- and 2-minute gesture poses and gradually move up to 20-minute sketches. No drawing experience is necessary; just bring your own drawing materials—and cash tips for our model—and join us for some fun figure sketching practice!

Visual Arts Director Joy Davis and Creative Alliance staff welcome you to a night of art appreciation! Joy will conduct tours of Ainsley Burrows's exhibition, Raktism and Metachaos, from 5 to 630pm in the Main Gallery. Join Joy in conversation with featured resident artists to discuss the exhibition, Reaching Out, in the Amalie Rothschild Gallery on the second floor.

Blackscope Cinema Series: Daughters of the Dust

Creative Alliance's monthly Blackscope Cinema Series features Daughters of the Dust—a 1991 independent film written, directed, and produced by Julie Dash. It is the first feature film directed by an African-American woman to be distributed theatrically in the United States.

Join us as we celebrate the release of the new book Heroes of the Haitian Revolution by publisher Thorobred Books featuring author Frantz Derenoncourt, Jr. and illustrator Kervin Andre.

Blackscope Cinema Series: Buck and the Preacher

Creative Alliance's monthly Blackscope Cinema Series expands our understanding and appreciation of Black Film in America. Through varying programming, including talks, demos, and making activities, the Baltimore community is invited to celebrate modern and contemporary film from Black and Diasporic creators.

Blackscope Cinema Series continues with a screening of Buck and the Preacher.

About The Film

Buck and the Preacher is a 1972 American Western film released by Columbia Pictures, written by Ernest Kinoy and directed by Sidney Poitier. Poitier also stars in the film alongside Harry Belafonte and Ruby Dee. This is the first film Sidney Poitier directed. Vincent Canby of The New York Times said Poitier "showed a talent for easy, unguarded, rambunctious humor missing from his more stately movies".

Our Box Office is currently open from Noon to 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays and one hour before all ticketed events. We accept cash, cards, and checks. Service fees are waived for in-person ticket purchases.
