In this figure drawing class taught by Lydia Ethem, students will be inspired by the flowing lines and elegant forms of the Art Nouveau era. Inspired by the works of Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, and other masters of the movement, this course explores the human form through the lens of ornamental design, organic motifs, and stylized beauty.
Swimming Pool is a solo exhibition by Baltimore based interdisciplinary artist and ultramarathon open water swimmer, Katie Pumphrey. Swimming Pool features all new paintings and a site-specific installation.
Deeply connected to her experiences in the water, Pumphrey explores the repetition of our anxieties and fears, along with the humor we call on to swim through it all. Her work explores how our imagination plays tricks on us, especially when stress is high and the journey is far.
Musical instruments have helped us communicate and express ourselves since the beginning of human culture. Learning about the musical instruments of the ancient Americas and building and playing our own instruments helps us to awaken the memory of our connection to nature, cultivate presence through the working with clay, and experience joy through sound and music-making. In this hands-on workshop we will learn about musical instruments that have been made across Central and South America for thousands of years and learn to build our own working clay flutes.
For three years running, Unidos En El Arte has proven that art is more than expression—it's survival, it's community, it's the bridge between where we've been and where we're going. This year's exhibition celebrates the resilience woven into every brushstroke, every story, every creative act that emerges from our vibrant Latinx and Caribbean community in Baltimore.
In a time when our stories need telling more than ever, Unidos En El Arte showcases how artists transform struggle into beauty, isolation into connection, and adversity into inspiration. These works celebrate the contributions of Latinx and Caribbean artists living in and around Baltimore, each piece a testament to the unbreakable spirit that defines our community.
