Join traditional folk artist Milana Borovskaia and learn how to paint with wool! Felting is a textile tradition with a history spanning thousands of years, practiced across diverse cultures worldwide. You’ll carefully layout wool in multiple directional layers to create an iris flower. Followed by specific manipulations that gradually tighten and interlock the fibers, you’ll transform loose fibers into a dense and durable textile.
Suitable for beginners; no prior textile experience required.

About the Artist
Milana Borovskaia has led workshops and demonstrations across educational, cultural, and community organizations, including the Textile Museum at George Washington University (2025), Sandy Spring Friends School (2025), Montpelier Arts Center (2025), the Delaplaine Arts Center (2023–2025), and the Sandy Spring Museum (2022–2025). Her teaching practice spans formal classrooms, open studios, folk festivals, live televised demonstrations, and community workshops in Maryland and internationally, including Hong Kong, China (2018–2019), and Krasnodar, Russia (2015–2017). She has also taught children, including at a local hospital in Krasnodar City (2015), combining creative practice with therapeutic and educational engagement.
Her instruction emphasizes both the historical and contemporary applications of felt, highlighting the healing potential of this natural medium while guiding students through all stages of the felting process. Across all settings, Milana fosters experiential learning, cultural awareness, and collaborative creativity. She has taught people of different ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds, creating an inclusive environment in which participants from diverse communities engage with felt-making as a living cultural tradition.
