Magdalena is thrilled to present their newest program, Voyager: From France to the Mediterranean. This narrated concert loosely follows the life of Madeleine Lartessuti, a legendary Renaissance seafarer who frequented France, the Mediterranean, andthe British Isles. Packed with foreign sea shanties, folk ballads, and Renaissance music alike, Voyager presents a unique sonic experience that is not to be missed.

What do France, the Mediterranean, and the British Isles have in common? All were locales frequented by Madeleine Lartessuti, one of the most legendary maritime traders of the Renaissance. Join Magdalena on Voyager: From France to the Mediterranean, an immersive, narrated program that spiritually follows Lartessuti’s life at sea. From charming sea shanties to otherworldly folk ballads, Voyager is an ambitious musical endeavor with a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.

Magdalena (stylized magdalena) is a self-directed collective of early, new, and folk music specialists based on the US east coast. Through immersive storytelling, genre expansion, and interdisciplinary endeavors, Magdalena strives to make period music accessible and enjoyable to all, regardless of age or background.

Debuted in 2023, Magdalena’s current musician lineup includes Mira Fu-En Huang (voice/percussion), Cole Manel (plectrum instruments), Cameron Welke (plucked strings), and Niccolo Seligmann (bowed strings). Magdalena has performed across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond, having been featured by presenters such as Gotham Early Music Scene (GEMS) Midtown Concerts, the Indianapolis Early Music Festival,and Early Music Now.
