TEEN COUNCIL- Now taking applications!

Creative Alliance | teen_council

Application Deadline : May 1st

Have you wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Creative Alliance – Baltimore’s premiere multi-arts non-profit? Do you know what it takes to provide 5,000+ young people with free programing each year? You could answer these questions with a resounding YES if you join the Teen Council! Teen Council serves as a youth advisory board for Creative Alliance; they make program proposals, lead exhibitions, translate, create marketing materials, and assist teaching artists.

Teen Council begins July 1 as a five-week summer intensive. Those successfully complete the program are promoted as program assistants in the Great Halloween Lantern Parade and after-school assistants at one of the Creative Alliance After School programs at John Ruhrah or Tench Tilghman Elementary/Middle Schools.

This summer, Creative Alliance will welcome twelve local young people to the 2019-2020 Teen Council as part of the Summer Youth Collaborative. In partnership with Youth Works and Centro Sol!, these teens will develop professional work habits through employment and positive attitudes during their participation in an array of leadership projects.

How do I apply?
To apply, you must be between 16-21 years old.
Send resume, cover letter and two references to Education Director, Maria Gabriela Aldana at maria@creativealliance.org by May 1st followed by an in-person thirty minute interview to be scheduled on Fridays between 4-6pm.

This summer, Teen Council is tasked with 4 different projects:

Teen Inclusion Plan | Fridays: 9AM-3PM
The Teen Council cultivates close relationships with the full-time staff of Creative Alliance and develops an understanding of the organizational structure and what makes the Creative Alliance unique! They meet with each member of the eight departments and develop program proposals that will shape Creative Alliance as a friendlier and more inclusive community arts center for teens to express their talents. Proposals might include extended employment, new arts programs, or suggestions that could impact the culture of the organization. These Teen Inclusion Plans will be presented to the Creative Alliance community during the Teen Luncheon.

Teen Art Exhibition | Tuesdays and Thursdays: 11AM- 1PM
The Teen Council works together to organize and curate an exhibition of teen art work and talent from across Baltimore City! They will plan and lead outreach initiatives to local businesses for sponsorships, donations, and partnerships. The reception will be held on Saturday, July 27th from 1-4PM. Exhibition is on view July 27 thru August 18.

Lantern Making | Mondays and Wednesdays: 11AM-1PM
Under the guidance of a Baltimore artist, The Teen Council will help create 500 lantern-bases to be decorated by children and their families in free art workshops in the month of October, as part of the 20th Great Halloween Parade & Festival at Patterson Park.

Open Minds Teaching Assistant | Monday thru Thursdays 2PM-4PM
Teen Council members assist lead instructors with visual and performing arts projects which support early literacy programs for children in grades K-2nd at the Patterson Park Library or art and literacy projects for children in grades 3-5 at the Southeast Anchor Library.
