The Learning (Synopsis)

The Learning is the story of four Filipina women who reluctantly leave their families and schools to teach in Baltimore. With their increased salaries, they hope to transform their families' lives back in their impoverished country. But the women also bring idealistic visions of the teacherâs craft and of life in America, which soon collide with Baltimore's tough realities. A co-production of CineDiaz and ITVS in association with The Center for Asian American Media, with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and American Documentary | POV.

We might be a bit biased, but we think Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas are one of the most dynamic zydeco bands on the planet. Led by deeply soulful Nathan Williams, the Cha Chas are a zydeco band with some serious blues chops whose sound is deeply traditional and also uniquely their own.
COME EARLY (7:15pm) for a zydeco dance lesson with Ben Pagac!
Nathan formed The Cha Chas back in 1985, and since then has brought his unique take on this regional South Louisiana music to all corners of the globe. From Lincoln Center in New York to The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Nathan’s music has crossed all barriers to speak to the very heart of his audience. Inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2005, he was honored last year with the Zydeco Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The Cha Chas have been voted the top Festival Band in the country and have won the coveted Big Easy award for Best Zydeco Band for several years running.
