The word “immersive” has gained a lot of traction in the last ten years and has been used to describe everything from theme parks to shopping experiences. In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to the term as it relates to the performing arts. In the first part of the workshop, we’ll discuss the basic building blocks of immersive shows and cover some of the groundbreaking productions that led to the rise in popularity of the style. Then, we’ll share examples of some of our own productions and talk about the methods we use to imagine and build stories, characters, and whole worlds. The second part of the workshop will be on our feet, participating in group exercises, improvisations and games—the tools we rely on at the beginning of our process, no matter what the subject matter of the show.
