The Movies in the Lounge Series
October 2 at 6:30pm

Movies in the Lounge showcases emerging filmmakers exploring new territory in their work. We screen short and mid-length films (up to 60 minutes) across all genres and styles. Filmmakers are in the room to talk about their process and answer questions after each screening. This is a space for informal dialogue between artists and audiences. Discover voices you haven’t encountered yet!

About The Films

Welcome to King Friday’s Dungeon, Destiny Arturet

Three puppeteering acts brace for the challenge of preparing for King Friday’s Dungeon Puppet Slam at Mayo Street Arts in Portland, Maine.
Runtime: 15 min

Secret of the Fiend Graveyard, John Kinhart

When trying to find the graveyard filming location used in Don Dohler’s 1980 Maryland film FIEND, a tragic story is discovered hidden in plain view.
Runtime: 13 min

SUSPENSIONS, INFINITE, Patricia Silva

Articulating generational jumps between rural and urban workers within Southwest European immigration patterns, SUSPENSIONS, INFINITE examines the language of propaganda films to create an experimental essay film on vanishing forms of working, cycles of exploitation, and the role of human attention (as a labor form in itself) within surveillance capitalism.
Through a cinematic portrait of a Portuguese family’s labor histories from 1900-2002, a continuum is exposed: emigrant adaptability, queer personhood, and the almost-working class. This work proposes that working people are very astute observers of power imbalances within our current means of connection. But our voice is missing.
Runtime: 10 min
