In It’s A Lot, comedian, writer, and “godmother of alternative comedy” Beth Lapides takes on the personal, existential, and cosmic experience of living through a world of accelerating change. Because when old paradigms, familiar identities, and everything we thought we could count on begin to dissolve, life can feel like one enormous collective existential crisis—or, as Beth calls it, the Goo Age.
Blending stand-up comedy, storytelling, memoir, and original songs written with musical collaborator Mitch Kaplan, Beth asks how we find meaning, consciously create a better way, and become ourselves in the middle of uncertainty. Then she sets out to turn a seemingly catastrophic eviction into the best thing that ever happened to her. Along the way, relocation, loss, recovery, manifestation, and reinvention happen—and she unexpectedly discovers how fiercely she wants to be here, and how deeply she wants to be connected.
Funny, intimate, searching, and ultimately uplifting, It’s A Lot is about the changes we resist, the signs we miss, and the courage it takes to meet the moment together. Because the change we fear might just become the change that saves us.
