With the opening of the new Creativity Center, Creative Alliance embarks on a new journey for connecting with learners from pre-K through senior adults as well as presenting engaging, inspiring, and thought-provoking exhibitions and performances. Creative Alliance is Baltimore’s premier multi-arts venue with a mission to present and promote artists, performers, and filmmakers; engage diverse audiences; and improve the quality of life in Baltimore City through community-based arts and education programs.
Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will develop a vision for this department and collaborate with Creative Alliance staff to infuse community arts in all programs. The Community Arts and Volunteers Manager supports building audiences for all programs, provides space for the community to work in co-creating programming, and is responsible for building strong relationships with residents, cultural communities, religious communities, non-profits, local businesses, libraries, and foundations in Baltimore, forging a link between them and Creative Alliance. This position is also responsible for overseeing Creative Alliance’s Volunteer Program, including the recruitment, training, coordination, and scheduling of volunteers. The position uses arts to foster community engagement with a diverse and changing population and is responsible for ensuring restorative justice and racial equity are at the focal point of Community Arts programming.
Additionally, this position is responsible for translating documents and forward-facing language across departments for English and Spanish speakers.
About the Ideal Candidate:The ideal candidate is a proven manager and collaborative colleague who is comfortable leading major projects and is passionate about identifying, diversifying, and engaging our audiences, while forming deep relationships for Creative Alliance within the community. The candidate will have strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, and written/verbal communications skills, event planning and exhibit creativity, enthusiasm, and appreciation for the arts in general and Creative Alliance specifically.
Principal Responsibilities:
Community Arts Programming – 20%
- Continue existing programming, while evaluating and updating as necessary
- Create and implement original and inclusive arts programs that enrich and positively impact the community by making a long-term connection to Creative Alliance
- Foster dialogue between diverse groups of people in the community through the arts in conjunction with program staff
- Cultivate opportunities for inclusive neighborhood engagement and professional development for artists and performers
- Support and learn the processes and components of the Great Halloween Lantern Parade through working with the Education Manager for the first two years, ultimately taking over the management and operations of the program in year three. Manages all aspects of planning and execution for the Big Baltimore Kite Festivals, as well as other smaller outdoor events
- Establish and maintain long-term partnerships with neighbors and community organizations, including area schools, community associations, churches, and businesses
- Attend neighborhood meetings and functions to establish and maintain community relations
- Keep abreast of neighborhood and city-wide community events and opportunities; determining potential partnership opportunities
- Provide Spanish Language Translation
- Support CIELO programs with logistical and tactical assistance
Events Management – 40%
- Manage community events from conception, planning, and budgeting through implementation and evaluation
- Identify new opportunities for events within the community
- Pull permits with the city where necessary for outdoor community events
- Develop and deploy evaluative surveys for community events, working in conjunction with Creative Alliance staff. Utilize surveys to evaluate the programs and services that Creative Alliance is currently providing and as a means of ascertaining what the community desires Creative Alliance to provide in the future
Management – 25%
- Examine current volunteer program for opportunities to improve, retain, and grow the volunteer corps
- Develop relationships with companies whose staff may be looking for volunteer opportunities
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for all Creative Alliance events
- Liaison with program leads to identify volunteer needs and provide engaging volunteer opportunities
- Schedule volunteers to fulfill building needs
- Improve communication with the volunteer corps
Advancement – 5%
- Coordinate with the Executive Director and the Development Department on community arts funding opportunities
- Coordinate with the Marketing Director for news and media opportunities, including Spanish language media
- Monitor and provide reports on key results areas for funders

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
- BA/BFA degree in arts education, arts or community management, or comparable experience
- Two to three years’ experience working in community engagement or comparable experience
- Experience with coordinating a volunteer program
- Experience in a professional educational/theatrical environment working with multi-aged learners including a proven track record of teaching
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write for a variety of audiences – candidates may be asked to submit a writing sample
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time
- Highly skilled in Microsoft applications; Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe, and Power Point required.
- Knowledge of Salesforce, Patron Manager, or other ticketing software, and Airtable strongly desired
- Ability to speak Spanish
- Work some nights, weekends, and holidays
- Able to lift 40 lbs.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in arts administration
- Experience overseeing and evaluating volunteers
- Familiarity with developing and implementing curriculum (in visual arts, performance, and other arts disciplines)
- Experience creating impactful and engaging experiences and curriculum for learners and community members
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the experiences, needs, and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and identities.
- Deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with experience working in diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environments
