NEW DECADE, NEW SKILLS

Creative Alliance | new decade, new skills

WELCOME TO THE NEW DECADE! It’s 2020 and it’s time to roll into the new year with some new workshops and classes being offered here at Creative Alliance!
For those you looking to up your game in the art realm, we’re offering a workshop that will teach you how to photograph your work and how to write an artistic statement. We also have some brand new workshops and class series that are sure to bring about an entirely new flavor to our workshop programming such as New workshops such as Film Appreciation and Intro to Macraweaving. And back by popular demand, we’re bringing back some Creative Alliance favorites such as Ukulele, Punch Embroidery, and Healing the Body: Painting and Meditation. Check out the links below to see our entire lineup for the next couple of months! Professional museum photographer, Dan Goodrich, reveals the tips and tricks needed to document your artwork for marketing or print reproductions. Learn the basics of lighting and photo editing – starting with just a cell phone and two lamps! Watch every step of the process and learn how professionals capture archive-quality images that can be used to create life-like reproductions.

This hands-on workshop will equip artists of any genre with the tools to create a professional artist statement, resume, and biography; crucial documents required of artists to participate in art exhibitions, festivals, concerts; and other art-related events.

Film Appreciation w/ Luke MacCloskey
SATURDAYS | JAN 25-FEB 29 | NOON-3PM

Film Lovers! This is a class for film enthusiasts who want to study movies as an art form. View each film in its entirety and have a lively discussion about its place in movie history. From the silent era to the 1960s we look at seven films over six sessions.

Sip and Paint: Paint Using Makeup w/ Gloria Garrett
SAT JAN 25 | NOON

In this workshop you will create a beautiful still life image of flowers in a vase on a table using… MAKEUP! Participants will use lipstick, eye shadow, and other cosmetics to create a table, vase, and flowers. Your unique, eye-catching piece will have audiences asking, “How did you make that?”

Learning Klezmer from written music. For intermediate/advanced instrumentalists newer to the style on ornamentation, nuance, phrasing. All instruments welcome. Please bring your instrument.

Punch by Numbers w/ Elisa Wells
THURSDAYS | FEB 20-MAR 5 | 6-8PM

Punch Needle is an easy to learn, versatile embroidery technique that uses a pen-like tool with a hollow threaded needle tip transform looped fibers into lovely piled designs. You can use a wide range of materials as a base cloth, various threads, yarn, or fibers for punching.

Healing the Body: Painting and Meditation w/ Ashley Dequilla
SAT FEB 29 | 11AM-2PM

Spend the afternoon engaged in artistic expression within the safety of the gallery walls at the Creative Alliance. Ashley Dequilla leads you on a journey of self-expression, exploration, and healing as you create a 72” x 32” abstract figure portrait.

Intro to Macraweaving w/ Taylor Riley
SAT FEB 29 | NOON-3PM

In this 3-hour workshop, students will be introduced to basic macrame and weaving techniques in order to complete a wall hanging. Macrame knots covered will include the lark’s head knot, square knot, and double half hitch. Weaving techniques will include the tabby weave, soumak weave, and rya knots. Each student will leave the workshop with a 1 ft wide by 2-3 ft long piece of art to hang on their wall or gift to a friend.
