Walk On By: Baltimore-Rotterdam Exhibition & Artist Exchange

Creative Alliance, TENT Rotterdam, and Baltimore-Rotterdam Sister City Committee, present Walk On By: an exhibition and a cultural exchange that connects Black artists, their diverse experiences, and artwork, across the Atlantic. Explore the Black Atlantic through the diverse stories of local artists in the historical port cities of Baltimore and Rotterdam, through exhibitions in both countries and an exchange program.

Shimmy & Strut w/ Naimah

Let's get Ssssslinky! This fun and sassy workshop is for burlesque performers who want to explore belly dance movement. Spice up your act with thunderous shimmies, ooey gooey undulations, eye-popping isolations, and more. This class is designed to pull you out of your comfort zone and bring forth an all-new level of self-confidence with emphasis on style, grace, stage presence, and properly executed dance technique along with muscle control. This class also includes a brief discussion on similarities between the two art forms. The objective is to combine the snaky movements of belly dance with theatrical elements of burlesque to create movement that is visually stunning and impactful.

Hosting Diverse Audiences w/ Mx. Eden

Ladies and gentlemen..." *yikes* we're already off to a bad start. Burlesque audiences are just as diverse as the world we live in. And it's a host's job to make every attendee of every race, gender, and body size feel welcome. In this workshop, we'll discuss gender-neutral greetings and other inclusive language every host should have in their vocabulary. This workshop is open to seasoned hosts looking to brush up their skills, performers hoping to step into the role of host, and producers who want to curate more identity-affirming shows.

Splash into Bunny Blu's distinctive and engaging approach to watercolor painting by incorporating the use of natural dyes with accessible watercolor techniques. Beyond the Basics: Burlesque Costuming for All Levels w/ Bebe Bardeaux

Learn the art of creating stage-ready costumes that enhance your performance and captivate your audience! From corsets and feathers to rhinestones and appliques, discover how to craft costume "regalia" that tells a story and elevates your burlesque, drag, and other performance art to new heights. We'll cover beginner and intermediate sewing techniques for burlesque, but no prior sewing experience is necessary. Whether you're just starting or looking to refine your skills, this class offers practical tips and creative inspiration to help you shine on stage.

Queer Climate Cabaret: Writing with the Elements: A Generative Workshop

Burgeoning climate activists and seasoned environmental writers alike may wonder where to begin when faced with the mammoth task of tackling climate change through writing. In this generative workshop, queer author and performance artist Jacob Budenz will provide resources, space, and time to write with the elements, sharing tips on weaving climate activism into creative writing, making the political personal and the personal political, and creatively engaging with the existential threats to the natural world with an eye toward hope and connection. Located in the gardens of the Ivy Bookshop, Writing with the Elements will immerse participants in climate writing alongside the elements they wish to protect, offering participants the opportunity to share their writing around a fire at the workshop's culmination.

Art To Dine For 2024: Wings & Things

Oletha DeVane is a way finder and a storyteller. Over the last five decades, as she has traveled in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean, she has been inspired by the stories and characters she encounters, bringing the unexpected to light, while finding new nuances in the old and familiar. Her aesthetic impulses are driven by what critic and curator Angela Carroll describes as “anticolonial liberation efforts, Juneteenth, the legacy of her father, and humanity’s tireless existentialism.” Join her for an intimate artist talk as she shares stories from her life as a traveler, artist, and activist. Enjoy a feast of chicken wings while you bask in the presence of this legendary artist!

Art To Dine For 2024: BmoreArt | City of Artists Salon

Ed and Ann Berlin host a literary and arts salon in their home centered on the book City of Artists, BmoreArt's first full-length book, featuring 220 pages of personal reflections from leading writers alongside portfolios from Baltimore city’s most celebrated visual artists. Enjoy a drink and small bites among Ed and Ann's collection of 20th Century art and design, as sparkling discussion unfolds with some of the artists and writers from the book, as well as Rachel Castedo, the designer of the book. You'll leave with a copy of City of Artists to take home.
