Join our wonderful resident artists as they showcase the journey of their art practice since they started at Creative Alliance. Sound, photography, and collage will fill our second-floor gallery! For over 10 years, the resident artist program at The Patterson has supported artists from Baltimore and the nation. We continue the tradition with the opening of applications for the 2024 cohort.
Musical instruments have helped us communicate and express ourselves since the beginning of human culture. Learning about the musical instruments of the ancient Americas and building and playing our own instruments helps us to awaken the memory of our connection to nature, cultivate presence through the working with clay, and experience joy through sound and music-making. In this hands-on workshop we will learn about musical instruments that have been made across Central and South America for thousands of years and learn to build our own working clay flutes.
Dive into an immersive experience via grounding the body through art, sound, meditation, and more. The flow of this workshop provides focus and calm to the participants, so they walk away with tangible techniques to better their mental health. The program is circular: breath (meditation), mandala-making (art), then group reflection on the process of making the art and its emotional effects. Jeanne Marie will then lead her sound session, and another art-making experience will stem from the effects of the sound on participants, followed by a group discussion and closing breath.
Explore the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation, an open-ended form of dance that embraces the kinesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. In this collaboration between two expert movement practitioners, build skills through exploring principles of weight sharing, embodied listening, and collaborative movement. Each class focuses on a particular skill or principle and moves into a guided practice. While each class in the series builds as a cumulative experience, classes can also be registered for as individual sessions. All levels of experience are welcome.
