About Black Root:
Jamaal 'Black Root' Collier is a full-time multidisciplinary performance and master teaching artist. For more than two decades, he channels his art form through theatre, vocal percussion, emceeing (Rapping), singing, didgeridoo playing, drumming, spoken word poetry and hosting events. His infectious energy and skill set serve him well as the co-founder of Baby Beats! With Max & Root, front man of the Black Root Underground, vocal percussionist for The QueenEarth Band, and Emcee for the Mindstate Mix duo with J Pope, as well as Root & Word (Axiom). Root articulates his passion and appreciation for his artistry and his community every time he teaches and performs.
About Sidewalk Serenades:
As you likely know, working musicians, dancers, magicians, burlesque performers, aerialists, and other performance-based artists have had their gigs and their livelihoods cancelled for the foreseeable future. Join Creative Alliance in creating performance opportunities for these artists throughout Baltimore while simultaneously respecting the need for everyone to keep a safe distance.
Creative Alliance is once again offering you the opportunity to have a short performance of two to three songs delivered to the front of your home (or a friend/loved one’s home) for a small fee.
Performers will come to the confirmed address, text the residence upon arrival and, like a burst of sunlight through these gray skies, share their talents from the sidewalk. The donations from each of these performance events will be shared between the artist and Creative Alliance to help keep the arts alive and thriving in Baltimore!
The Basics:
What if I want to purchase a concert for someone else???
What if I live in an apartment?
What if I would like a performance but just can't afford it at this time?
While there is a fee per concert, there are opportunities for those without the means to still enjoy some live music. Musicians have been asking to do additional community performances for free. If you are in need, know someone in need, or work at an organization of essential workers (a hospital, perhaps) and have a safe space for a performance to occur, reach out to ari@creativealliance.org to coordinate.
