Join Lyon for a 3-hour hands-on photography workshop exploring the streets of Highlandtown during golden hour. You’ll learn fundamental photography techniques, how to notice patterns when walking around the city, and connect with fellow creatives—no experience necessary.
This workshop is designed for all skill levels. Whether you’re taking photos for the first time or you’re a seasoned photographer seeking fresh perspective and community, you’re welcome here. The only requirements: a phone camera and a desire to take photos.
What to Bring:
- A phone, camera on automatic mode, or any device that won’t distract you with technical settings
- Your laptop, tablet, or phone to review and edit photos

What We’ll Cover:
Learn (45 min)
We’ll explore inspiring photobooks together and cover fundamentals of composition, hierarchy, and light—practical techniques to help you shoot with intention and have fun doing it.
Play (1 hr 15 min)
We’ll wander Highlandtown as a group, spotting patterns and capturing moments. Lyon will work with you individually to refine your framing and develop your eye.
Create & Connect (1 hr)
Back together, we’ll review your photos as a group, discuss what works, and learn how to edit with purpose. This is where you’ll start developing your artistic voice.

About the Artist
Lyon is a Baltimore-based teacher, designer, and photographer, inspired by his childhood in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He teaches motion graphics, 3D design, and special effects at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Baltimore School for the Arts. Growing up in Amsterdam, he learned to notice social interactions on the streets, a practice he continues in Baltimore during his daily commute. He exhibits regularly and is an active member of Baltimore’s robust photography community.
Lyon prioritizes experimentation over rigid rules—technical knowledge is simply a method for creative freedom. He teaches students that understanding fundamentals of composition, hierarchy, and light helps them shape their perspective and develop their artistic voice.
