About Highwire Improv:
Improv is the process of a community coming together to make art in real-time. Although there are many improv techniques, training programs, and performance practices, at Highwire Improv our process begins with community. That includes our performers, the people of Baltimore, and the larger improv community across the world. Our motto, Community First, commits us to learning how we can all create theater, and bring our community to the world through the art of improv. We are a reaction to the negative impulses and incentives we have seen in improv, in theater, and in our daily lives.
Keith Estrella (he/him) has been makin’ stuff up on a stage since November 2017, when he took his very first improv class at the Harrisburg Improv Theater in Harrisburg, PA. Since then he’s performed, taught, or coached there and in multiple locations within both Pennsylvania and the Baltimore, MD area. He’s taken the Zoom stage several times as well, learning and performing through World’s Greatest Improv School during the height of the pandemic. Last year, he even took his first transatlantic flight to perform at the Edinburgh International Improv Festival in the incredibly stony city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Currently he enjoys performing at the Baltimore Improv Group with his house team, Snake Oil, and a myriad of other indie teams in the Baltimore area including A++, Brad’s Dad, and Tabletop Live!. He is a proud cat-uncle to his housemate’s orange tabby Reece. Don’t let him talk to you about Dungeons and Dragons (unless you’re into that kind of thing).
Sam Van Sant (she/her) began studying improv in 2010 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she earned her B.A. in Theatre (acting). She’s trained with the Baltimore Improv Group and has performed at a variety of theaters across the East Coast. She currently performs with groups including Babeprov, Sandcats, Girl Talk, and Dreamweaver. To Sam, improv is not solely about being funny – it’s about discovering what can be built together through creativity and openness. She especially loves improv that builds a story through honest characters navigating real(ish)-life challenges.
