About Sitara Sin
Serving silver screen glamor in high-def realness, Sitara Sin is old Bollywood gone bad. A post-colonially principled artist, she combines classical training in South and Central Asian music and dance, an academic background in the cultural politics of ethnonationalism, and a natural talent for taking her clothes off. She has performed in a myriad genres throughout the Mid-Atlantic, organized open mic and advocacy spaces in the DMV, accidentally fronted a band for a night in Serbia, gone semi-viral in Tajikistan, and (proudly) almost been arrested for protesting Hindu fascism in front of the Indian Embassy. Outside of performances, Sitara supports artists affected by censorship, persecution, and humanitarian crises; she is currently curating a series spotlighting the histories of marginalized music in South Asia.

Since her conception in 2016 and Essential Tease-induced rebirth in 2023, Sitara’s burlesque pays homage to the roots of South Asian pop culture history while challenging white and oppressor-caste visions of feminine beauty and sexuality. Since 2024, she is proud to be part of the production team at B’More Naughty, a WOC-led burlesque company uplifting local and beginner performers. When she’s not dissociating, you can find her rifling through her collection of Bollywood disco and psychedelic records or yelling at government buildings. Through burlesque, she manages to do a bit of both at the same time.
