Bmore Clay Series is a Black and queer-led program created to present an alternative to predominantly white ceramic spaces and provide work opportunities with clay. We host accessible, diverse, intro to hand-building workshops created for communities of color in Baltimore. This workshop is open to everyone.

J will lead cooking demonstrations showcasing a featured ingredient or theme and collaborate with participants to create a full community meal. Musical instruments have helped us communicate and express ourselves since the beginning of human culture. Learning about the musical instruments of the ancient Americas and building and playing our own instruments helps us to awaken the memory of our connection to nature, cultivate presence through working with clay, and experience joy through sound and music-making. In this hands-on workshop, participants will get an in-depth introduction to the Ocarina, a type of globular clay flute that has been made for thousands of years in Central and South America. Over the course of four sessions, we will build understanding of and confidence with the skills needed to design, build, and decorate both simple and sculptural clay flutes.
This drop-in figure drawing course is suitable for all skill levels. Untrained new artists will learn multiple approaches to figure drawing while seasoned artists will have the opportunity to hone their skills and further train their eye. Each class will feature a nude model and begin with quick gesture poses. The remaining time will be spent on the artistry of longer poses. The goal is to train all artists to more quickly and fluidly capture the gesture of the entire figure.

Want to work with a diverse group of people to create performances? So do we! Move Move Collaborative artists will draw on years of experience to offer movement practices outside of traditional dance classes. The first four classes feature movement artists Peter Redgrave, Matt Williams, Ariel Foster, and more; sharing techniques that range from butoh to contact improv to clowning. These techniques come to a head in the fifth session, which centers around planning an original performance! Participants will learn about different ways to organize a performance—durational, score based, and choreographed modes will be explored. The final class will be an open sharing of our collective thinking. Please come and get expansive and get move moving!
Learn the Ecuadorian practice of Porcelana Fria ("cold porcelain") in this special floral workshop with the Creative Alliance's Artesana Zoila Gomez! Porcelana Fria is an easy-to-make material that is used for school program, souvenirs, mementos for baptisms, bridal bouquets, quinceañera cards, centerpieces, decorations, and many more. Free Family Sundays: Make a Beaded Portrait
Meet us in the Joseph Education Center Studio for a workshop inspired by the special exhibition Joyce J. Scott: Walk a Mile in My Dreams. Experiment with beads and wire to sculpt a portrait of yourself or a loved one! This workshop will be led by Quante Thomas and Susan Tuberville, guest instructors from Creative Alliance’s Kerplunk! program.

This monthly program will be sharing ways to meet the challenges of daily life by staying connected to our choices without reacting to people and situations. This is an opportunity to discover well-being within your body and mind regardless of your situation. On alternating months, the program will be done in Spanish.

Join papercut artist Annie Howe for a fun and hands on papercutting workshop series. In this two session workshop you will learn the basics about papercutting and how to create your very own custom papercuts. Annie will teach you the main concepts of papercutting and get you started on your own design. Annie will be there to guide you on any technical questions and design ideas you may have throughout the entire workshop. You will leave with the understanding of how to make a papercut and also your own finished or almost finished (depending on how complex you make it) original papercut and the know how to continue papercutting at home!
Shake out your sillies with song, nursery rhymes, puppet shows, instruments, and, of course, a dance party! Each class begins with a breathing exercise before transitioning into music and movement activities. Taught by Eliza Adams, a Maryland preschool teacher and musician, this class is designed for children 5 and under. Caretakers are welcome to join or watch!

Forget the exercise and join the party! Zumba is an exercise program that is inspired by movements and steps from Latin dances. Created and founded in Colombia in 1990 by the Colombian dancer and choreographer Beto Pérez, it fuses high- and low-intensity movements to lower calories in a fun way. In these classes, balance and flexibility are combined with cardiovascular and muscular work and increased energy.
Curious about crankies? During this workshop, mixed media artist Marian McLaughlin guides you through the process of crafting your own multi-dimensional storytelling device with acrylic paint on fibrous Tyvek paper scrolls. Through crafting crankies, engage in visual, kinetic, and narrative concepts. And then take home a miniature crankie box of your own creation! Prompts are available, or come prepared with a simple story or song to base your crankie on. Materials are provided, no artistic experience is necessary.
Explore the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation, an open-ended form of dance that embraces the kinesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. Build skills through exploring principles of weight sharing, embodied listening, and collaborative movement. Each session will be organized into two parts. The first half of each session will focus on a particular skill or principle. The second half of the session will move into an open jam (with some guidance), in which participants are able to integrate what they've been learning. All levels of experience are welcome.

Two art forms COLLIDE for Baltimore City school students! Taking place on the Baltimore City Public Schools professional development days, these camps are chock-full of SPECTACULAR arts for students in grades 3-8. For half of the day, go Around the World with professional yoyo-er Abby Brodsky! Come learn the exciting, dynamic and fast-paced art of the yoyo—one of the World's oldest toys! In this workshop, Abby will teach you how to bring the yoyo up and down, walk the dog, rock the baby and more! Anyone can learn with just a little patience and practice! For the other half, join Baltimore Clayworks for a hands-on clay workshop. Learn basic clay terminology and hand-building skills to create form and texture, then leave with personal air-dry clay creations to take home and enjoy.

Both a social dance and a form of entertainment, belly dance is a great way to meet amazing people and learn about Egyptian history and culture. Pick up the foundational moves and vocabulary of belly dance, while learning about ethics, etiquette, music, and the history of belly dance. Be ready to MOVE!
