Feel the Rhythm
Bharatanatyam is the oldest Indian classical dance form. It combines body movement with facial expressions and storytelling to create an immersive experience for the dancer and the viewer. The dance is considered a meditative experience with body movements and facial expressions used to convey messages and stories. Traditionally called “temple dance,” this art form also delves into ancient Hindu mythology and portrays stories ranging from magical to mundane social situations that remain relevant to this day.

Instructor Bio
Dhanvini Gudi has been learning and practicing Bharatanatyam for the last 23 years, specifically, Kalakshetra, which originated in Chennai in the 1930s. She has performed in dance festivals in India, Canada, and the USA and, more recently, over the last few years, she has been teaching Bharatanatyam with a focus on introducing it to non-Indian beginners. As someone who has grown up learning and performing this artform, she is excited to share with people who are unfamiliar with it and invite them on a journey into the world of storytelling using their whole body.
