Exhibition Description
Tiffany Lange’s Monsters and Moons present a compelling exploration of archetypes through character-based sculpture. In this new body of work, Lange creates unorthodox beings informed by folklore, personal narrative, and spiritual symbolism. Oscillating between protector and threat, comfort and control, these figures reveal the fluid and often ambiguous nature of power and intention.
The exhibition brings together new sculptural characters alongside familiar forms that audiences may recognize from Lange’s evolving visual language. Rooted in emotion as a form of communication, the work resists fixed meaning, inviting viewers to project their own fears, hopes, and uncertainties onto these sculptural beings. In doing so, the characters become mirrors, reflecting our conflicted relationships with authority, protection, and vulnerability.
As a former Creative Alliance resident artist, Lange represents the depth of storytelling and artistic development that the residency program has fostered throughout the years. Her continued evolution as an artist demonstrates the long-term impact of supporting artists through critical phases of their practice. Monsters and Moons stand as a testament to what becomes possible when artists are given space, time, and community to develop ambitious ideas.
Artist Bio
Tiffany Lange, founder of The MadeUpStudio, is a Baltimore-based artist, creative director, medical illustrator, and puppet designer whose sculptural and mixed-media work fuses precision with fantastical whimsy.
Trained in biomedical visualization, she spent two decades leading creative teams in healthcare communications before devoting more focused attention to her studio practice.
Her tactile, subtly humorous works invite viewers into encounters with quirky, empathetic companions—creatures that mirror our own fragility, resilience, and need for connection, while regarding the world with a touch of mischief and suspicion.
