Grant Writer (Contract)

Position Summary
Creative Alliance seeks an experienced Grants Writer (Contract) to support institutional fundraising through targeted research, proposal writing, and grant management support. This role works on an as-needed, project-based basis and is assigned specific grant opportunities by the Director of Development. The Grants Writer will participate in bi-weekly check-in meetings to review priorities, deadlines, and progress.
This is a flexible, output-driven contract role with no guaranteed or set weekly hours; workload will fluctuate based on grant cycles, institutional priorities, and funding opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Research & Strategy
- Research and identify public and private grant opportunities aligned with Creative Alliance’s programs, operations, and strategic priorities
- Evaluate funding opportunities for fit, competitiveness, and return on investment
- Maintain awareness of funding trends in arts, culture, education, community development, and capacity-building
Grant Writing & Submissions
- Write, edit, and assemble high-quality grant proposals, narratives, and applications as assigned by the Director of Development
- Adapt institutional language and case statements to specific funder guidelines and priorities
- Work collaboratively with program, finance, and operations staff to gather required content, budgets, and attachments
- Ensure all submissions meet funder requirements and deadlines
Grant Management Support
- Assist with reporting narratives as needed
- Maintain organized records of submissions, deadlines, and outcomes
- Track application status and provide updates during bi-weekly check-ins
Collaboration & Communication
- Attend bi-weekly touch base meetings with the Director of Development (or designee)
- Communicate clearly about timelines, needs, and capacity
- Flag risks, deadline concerns, or information gaps early
Qualifications
- Proven experience in grant writing for nonprofits (arts, culture, education, or community-based organizations strongly preferred)
Demonstrated success securing grants from foundations, corporations, and/or government sources
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Strong organizational and deadline-management abilities
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet shifting priorities
- Familiarity with nonprofit budgets and program narratives a plus
Contract Structure & Compensation
- This is an independent contractor position
- Work is assigned on a project-by-project basis depending on organizational needs
- No set or guaranteed weekly hours
- Compensation structure may be hourly, per-project, or per-proposal (to be determined by contract)
- Contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits
