Mark Procopio is an experienced nonprofit executive and consultant in policy, education, and nonprofit management with a focus on change management. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of FreeState Justice, a Maryland's statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights advocacy and legal aid nonprofit. During his tenure, FreeState doubled in size, passed 13 pro-LGBTQ+ bills, secured appropriations for the expansion of supportive services and housing to youth experiencing homelessness, and served hundreds of clients each year. Previously, Mark worked with KIPP Baltimore Schools, a college-preparatory public charter school network serving the greater Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore City. There he served in multiple roles leading teams focused on development, external relations, and operations. Prior to KIPP, Mark worked with Teach For America's Baltimore region. He began his career teaching middle school in Baltimore City where his students and families stoked a passion and commitment to working with communities to achieve equality, access, and opportunity for all. He is a 10+ year resident of the Highlandtown, Patterson Park, and Fells Point neighborhoods, an experience enriched by the work of the Creative Alliance. Mark is an alumnus of the AmeriCorps and Teach For America programs, and he holds a teaching certificate from Johns Hopkins University School of Education and degrees in International Economics and International Finance from The Catholic University of America.
