What do cigars, boas, telephones, human skulls, and cheap sunglasses all have in common? They are great photo props! Props help put your subjects at ease. They make your photos come alive. A simple prop can add a twist to an ordinary snapshot. A vintage or unique prop can form the basis for a grand conceptual portrait. In this workshop Baltimore-based portrait and fashion photographer Vickie Gray describes how she uses props to enhance her portraits and create atmospheric vintage glamour scenes.
Afterward, you’ll have a chance to work with several models, using a wide assortment of clothing, accessories, and everyday items as well as one-of-a-kind finds to create a mood or concept. We’ll also discuss posing basics and how to direct your subjects for the best results. This is a hands-on, interactive session. Photographs are permitted, but the emphasis is on giving you a few more tools for your photographic work. Feel free to bring along a few of your own props!
