In this three part series, connect to yourself through the meditative, creative practices of paper marbling, bookbinding, and journaling.
Paper Marbling: In this class, you'll explore Japanese water-based marbling process of suminagashi. Swirl colorful ink across the surface of water to create beautiful marbled paper designs. This playful, calming, and meditative process and will encourage a greater sense of presence with nature and creativity.
Bookbinding: In the second part of the class series, learn bookbinding basics as you create your own journals. You'll uncover the history and techniques of bookbinding and leave with a collection of hand bound journals along with a bookbinding kit to continue making your own journals at home.
Journaling: In the last class of the series, you'll explore different methods of expressive, contemplative writing along with ways to fit a journaling practice into your daily life. We'll explore creative writing to capture dreams, ideas, work through life's challenges, and become more mindful and present with yourself and the world around you.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Kelly Laughlin is a Baltimore-based multidisciplinary artist and facilitator who focuses on the playful, meditative acts of making. She believes every person is capable of living a creative life and is excited to work with you in class. Kelly is the founder of Odette Press, a small batch paper marbling and bookbinding studio specializing in stationery and journals created in nature with the intention to support self discovery through the act of writing. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a degree in Printmaking and Book Arts, and travels throughout the country and abroad teaching workshops and leading creative wellness events.
