Ageless Grace, the annual concert presented by Dance Baltimore that features performances by dancers in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. This year, performing modern, tap, belly dance, jazz, African, Latin and more, senior companies will include solo, duet and ensemble selections by former professional dancers as well as “recreational” dancers from the community. This year, a special guest performer will be Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, former principal dancer with Hubbard Street Dance Company and The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Currently, a Professor of Dance at Towson University, Ms. Fisher-Harrell will perform a solo selection. Ms. Fisher-Harrell's Baltimore School for the Arts instructor and professional mentor, Stephanie Powell, will also be performing in this year’s Ageless Grace concert. Other former professional dancers appearing include Heather-Brooke Malone-Wolf, formerly of Bowen McCauley Dance and CJay Philp, former Broadway dancer (Hairspray, Big, the Musical).
In a discipline filled with young, flexible dancers, it isn’t often that seniors have the opportunity to take to the stage and offer their own expressions through movement. Leg extensions may not be as high as they used to be, lunges as deep as their younger counterparts but the senior dancers stand on solid ground with deep emotion and vast experience guiding their performance, evident in every step on stage. Dancers in this year’s Ageless Grace production are both former professional dancers as well as everyday residents who perform in more recreational forms.
