Artist Gina Pierleoni paints portraits that spark conversations about empathy and our common humanity. These portraits were born out of her connection to others through conversation. The performance, Making Conversation, is an extension of her practice. It combines live music and audience participation within the installation of her 200+ portraits on view in Creative Alliance’s main gallery.
Making Conversation invites viewers and participants to experience the creative process at work. This free 30 minute performance imagines how we move in the world inviting or abstaining from connection. It visualizes perception, habit and bias around where we place ourselves and others questioning how these decisions are made.
Making Conversation is relevant as Baltimore and the nation experience an ‘US / THEM’ mentality alongside momentum to create change. This performance involving ‘strangers’ makes visible places we cross, giving sound and shape to a journey that unites us.
