LauraB’s songs tell stories and describe feelings and experiences with frankness and courage. Told in her voice, these songs resonate with emotion adorned by subtle instrumental nuances and delicate arrangements and rhythms connected to the earth.
LauraB elevates the concept of singer-songwriter to a different and unique level that is entirely personal, brimming with intelligence and sensitivity and rooted in the folkloric traditions of her native Andalusia, Spain.
Laura González Flores has been a composer, singer, guitarist and drummer for bands such as Maldebares (2004-2009), Bafles (2010-2014), Ironics (2012-2016), Benson Señora (2018-2021) or Phosphoro (2017-2021) In her current project, LauraB, she shows her most intimate and personal style. LauraB is her B-side, the place where she strips herself of all artifice and surrenders to the rhythms of her deep-rooted cultural heritage, while still embracing different and varied contemporary influences. The sonorous universe of this multifaceted creator of lyrics and music is organic, full of truth and resonates with raw emotion.
LauraB’s first album was released in 2013 and is titled “Montaña Rusa” (Roller Coaster). The LP has ten tracks with sensitive lyrics and delicate sounds, sensations, emotions, reflections that bubble to the surface. It is an album born out of vulnerability and sincerity.
Years later, LauraB resumes her solo career with the 2022 release of “El Faro” (The Lighthouse), an EP with six stories that taste and smell like the sea and that juxtapose the elegance of her compositions and the resounding strength of her lyrics. This latest work is available on all digital platforms and has an exclusive and limited edition on 10-inch vinyl.
Throughout her career, LauraB has studied under musician Diego Pozo in addition to receiving training from guitarists such as Antonio Reina and the Cuban composer and guitarist Alejo Martinez. She is currently studying flamenco guitar at the Fernando Moreno School with Isaac Moreno and Davinia Ballesteros.
MEET THE BAND
MACUE NARBONA (PERCUSSION)
From a very early age, Macue Narbona felt attracted to the world of music. Although her tastes have always been very eclectic, she soon felt a special interest in roots music. Percussion entered her life through the flamenco cajón after attending a workshop in this instrument with Javi Ruibal. But thanks to her love of Irish music, she specialized in bodhrán, studying with Paul McClure and José Antonio Moreno, perfecting her performance in other disciplines later with the flamenco percussionist Carlos Merino. She has been a member of the Celtic music groups Gwyddel (2012-2017) and Keltiko (2019-2020). Macue Narbona joins LauraB’s project during the preparation of “El Faro,” album 0n which she is the percussionist. She has also collaborated with La Banda Morisca, Cinetones and La Lumbre.
PAQUI BENITEZ (BACKING VOCALS)
Paqui Benitez begins singing flamenco from an early age. Shortly after, she begins to study guitar. Thanks to her innate talent, Benitez becomes the cantaora of the flamenco dance group in the small town in the mountains of Cadiz where she was born. Years later, she moves to Jerez de la Frontera, where she begins working with LauraB on the album “Montaña Rusa” and later, recording backing vocals on the album “El Faro.”
Paqui Benítez is currently completing her musical training with Pedro Garrido “Niño de la Fragua.” She has also collaborated with the Andalusian music group La Banda Morisca and is the lead singer of the string quintet Las Costellas and La Lumbre, a personal project that she shares with guitarist Víctor Caro.
ELENA JIMENEZ (ACCORDION, CLARINET, FLUTE AND HURDY-GRUDY)
Elena Jimenez studied clarinet at the Manuel Castillo Conservatory of Music in Seville and completed her training at the Jazz School of the University of Cadiz and the School of Dance and Traditional Music of Jobbagytelke (Romania). For more than 20 years he has been part of various groups ranging from jazz to classical music, through a wide range of traditional European music. She is part of El Domador de Medusas, a band awarded 1st Prize at the 2019 Trebufestival, and she is the co-founder of Cinetones, a project dedicated to the creation of soundtracks for silent films. This Jerez-born multi-instrumentalist regularly plays clarinet, accordion, piano, hurdy-gurdy, Moldavian kával, furulyas, lyre, whistles and baroque flutes.
The professional trajectory of this passionate artist is marked by her interest in the discovery of traditional music from different latitudes and by experimentation with very diverse musical genres. Her music has no borders.
